Studying Jyotiṣa in the Ancient Paraṁparā Tradition of Vedic India
The Jaimini Scholar Program seeks to continue the esteemed Jyotish lineage of
Pandit Sanjay Rath, Atri Gotra, and reveal the true teachings and spiritual
wisdom of Maharishi Parāśara and Maharishi Jaimini. This lineage traces directly
from the enlightened Jyotishi Sri Achutyananda Das (born 1510), the teaching
being passed down within the Brahmin families unbroken for 500 years.
For the first time outside of these few Brahmin families in Orissa, and by the
grace of the Rishis through our Paraṁparā Guru Pandita Sanjay Rath, the real
deep secrets of Maharishi Jaimini’s Upadeśa Sutras are now being taught through
the Jaimini Scholar Program. Maharishi Jaimini’s guru’s guru was Maharishi
Parāśara and these upadeśa sutras actually explain the correct method of
applying many of the techniques found in Parāśara's text Bṛhat Parāśara Horā
Śāstra. For centuries many erudite astrologers have struggled to interpret what
Parāśara and Jaimini really meant, even to the extent that many thought Jaimini
had created his own tradition separate from that of Parāśara. However, the true
meaning of the word Upadeśa is: ‘instructions and advice from the master’,
clearly showing that the sutras are the teaching of the tradition and thus
coming down from Parāśara.
Pandit Sanjay Rath is personally training 26 Jaimini Scholars in a four year
program to become the custodians of the spiritual knowledge and wisdom of this
500 year old Jyotisha tradition to which Sanjay belongs. These Jaimini Scholars
will then have the responsibility to teach students themselves who will then
also become Jaimini Scholars. To this lineage we are greatly indebted and those
who are part of it aspire to uphold this sacred knowledge to its highest and
utmost dignity.

The Jaimini Scholar program is a four year course based on the Upadesha
Sutras of Maharishi Jaimini (one Adhyāya per year) with a background of the
Bṛhat Parāśara Horā Śāstra of Maharishi Parāśara. Each year is also related to
one of the four Vedas and is taught as a separate module, which means that
successful participants will obtain certification from the Devaguru Bṛhaspati
Centre for each year completed. However, it is expected to take longer in view
of the intricate, in-depth teaching. Three years of lessons have been completed
covering the first two adhyāya and a half of adhyāya III of the Upadeśa Sutra of
Maharishi Jaimini.
All of Sanjay’s lectures to the Jaimini Scholars in India were recorded, and all
students will have web access to these recordings in this website. Thus every
Jaimini Scholar will receive exactly the same teachings and materials as those
originally taught by Sanjay; however, these teachings must be learned through a
Certified Jaimini Scholar. Year 1 involves 28 principal lessons and several
subsidiary lessons, exactly as taught by Sanjay in India, and this first year
course is now being offered in the UK.
To become a Jaimini Scholar you first need to be selected as a student of a
Certified Jaimini Scholar. Please click here to contact me to discuss this. A
list of Certified Jaimini Scholars is available online for your ready reference.
Certification depends upon receiving direct teaching from a Jaimini scholar, as
the ‘word’ can only be transmitted from the mouth as was done originally by
Brahma in teaching the Veda. Therefore part of the teaching will be given in
person and the rest conducted online. This course is unique in the history of
Jyotiṣa and may not be offered again for a very long time. It is a very serious
study requiring commitment and dedication.
You can access the courses in this website under 'Jaimini Scholar' LMS, but will
need to be tutored directly by a qualified Jaimini Scholar for the purpose of
final accreditation. This website gives you the certificate for completion of
the web-based learning material. You have the option of (1) just learning from
this website with a certificate of course completion or taking this to the
required level of (2) also learning with one of the accredited Jaimini Scholars
WHO ARE ALSO QUALIFIED TO TEACH.
Completion of these courses does not qualify you to teach the Jaimini Scholar
Program but this will take your astrology practise to great heights with
accurate predictions and excellent remedial measures for overcoming the
suffering and problems of your clients and having the insight of the Vedic seers
to give proper guidance. In simpler words, this course qualifies you to become a
Jaimini Scholar and Jyotish Consultant. In order to qualify to teach, please
write for special testing to Pt. Sanjay Rath.
Please contact one of the 26 qualified Jaimini Scholar Teacher directly for
the teacher fees.
In addition to the teacher fees there is a website fee of $299 [about €200] to
access the slides and lectures given by Sanjay in India, and all the other
teaching material. This payment of €200 [per course-year] is also required to
obtain certification for successful graduates.
The Centre also offers a Sādhana pack including special Mālā, an Asana
(meditation seat), mantra book and other recommended items (approx cost $100).
All details of individual courses are available under the Jaimini Scholar LMS.
Each course year comprises many courses, roughly 20-30 courses at least.
A good general background in Jyotish is recommended. This can be obtained
through my other online Vedic Astrology courses with BAVA, ACVA, Śrī Jagannāth
Centre, Dirah Academy or by studying with a tutor privately.
Also, one should aspire to have a basic grounding in Sanskrit but this can be
developed as we go through the course. This course is also a sādhana, or serious
spiritual practice, and eligible students should be practising some form of
meditation and yoga.
If you have any doubts, the best thing is to check the FAQ or write to one of
the Jaimini Scholars for guidance. In this manner you can also build a personal
rapport with your tutor.
